Deutschlandticket 2027: New Price, When to Cancel, and Is It Still Worth It?

Deutschlandticket 2027: New Price, When to Cancel, and Is It Still Worth It?

For many desi families in Germany, the Deutschlandticket is the easiest way to get to work, school, the gurdwara or the mandir, and the Indian grocery shop on the other side of town. But the price keeps going up. Here's what you need to know for 2027, in simple words.

⭐ OUR TIP FOR DAILY TRAVEL

Small Power Bank

Your phone ticket only works if your phone does. Pick one that:

  • Is small enough for a pocket or bag
  • Fits your phone cable (e.g. USB-C)
  • Can charge your phone at least once (check the mAh)

💡 Tip: Keep it charged in your bag, especially in cold weather when batteries drain faster.
Quick facts:
• 2026 price: €63 per month (source)
• Expected price from 1 January 2027: €66.80 per month, as reported in late September 2026 (source)
• Cancel by the 10th of a month and it ends at the end of that month (source)

Why does the price change every year now?

From 2027, the price is meant to be adjusted regularly using an index, based on things like wages and energy costs. So small yearly increases are likely from now on. Always check the final price with your own transport company (Verkehrsbetrieb) or the app you bought the ticket in.

Don't want to pay the new price? Cancel by 10 December

If you cancel by 10 December 2026, your subscription ends on 31 December 2026, so you never pay the 2027 price. If you cancel on the 11th or later, it usually runs for one more month. Some providers handle price changes differently, so read any email or letter from your provider carefully.

Is it still worth it? A simple check

  1. Count how many trips you make in a normal month (work, school, shopping, temple, friends).
  2. Check what single tickets or a local monthly pass would cost in your city.
  3. If you travel almost every day, or take regional trains to other cities, the Deutschlandticket is usually still a good deal.
  4. If you mostly cycle or work from home, a few single tickets may be cheaper.

Tip: Ask your employer about a Jobticket. Many companies pay part of the Deutschlandticket for their staff.

Small things that make daily travel easier

If you use the ticket on your phone, a power bank saves you when the battery dies right before a ticket check. In winter, touchscreen gloves let you show the ticket without freezing your fingers.
